Lanka, is a 21 years old from Jajarkot district is a graduate of Lydia's 47th group of basic training and the 4th group of advanced training.

 

She is also the eldest daughter in her family. Due to poor family condition, her family members often go to India for daily wage work as seasonal migrant. Despite the challenges and family struggles, she has emerged as an empowered and responsible daughter, and she thanks Lydia Vocational Training Center for it.

 

After graduating from the Lydia Basic Tailoring program, Lanka took her first steps towards financial independence by opening a ladies’ tailoring shop. Located at 1.5 hours walk from her home, she works in her shop—modestly constructed with tin walls— stitching piece by piece, she earns enough to cover her needs and save some too.

 

Over time, her skills and dedication won the trust of local customers, enabling her to earn an impressive 10,000 to 15,000 NPR per month. Lanka’s income has made a profound difference in her life and the lives of her family members. She can pay her rent, meet daily expenses, and, most significantly, she was able to contribute 100,000 NPR to take her mother to India for treatment of a chronic throat illness.

 

Beyond supporting her family, Lanka has paid it forward by sharing her skills—she trained a relative in drafting, cutting, and sewing kurtas, who is now adding to their income through stitching Kurta too. Recognizing the evolving demands of her customers, Lanka decided to upgrade her skills further.

 

Currently she completed a three-month advanced training program at LVTC, where she refined her expertise to keep pace with market trends. With a clear vision for her future, Lanka expanded her tailoring business, aiming not only to increase her income but also to create opportunities for other women in her community.

 

Lanka’s story highlights the transformative power of training and hard work. Her journey from a remote village to becoming a skilled entrepreneur is an inspiring testament to what determination and support can achieve.
